Coffee Knowledge

Understanding Coffee Types

Green Coffee
Processing Stage Origin Focused

The Journey Begins: Green Coffee

Green coffee refers to unroasted coffee beans — the raw seeds of the coffee cherry. Ethiopia's diverse microclimates produce beans with distinctive flavor profiles based on altitude, soil, and variety.

Roasted Coffee
Transformation Roast Profiles

The Art of Roasting

Roasting transforms green coffee beans, developing their flavors and aromas. Light roasts preserve floral and citrus notes, while darker roasts highlight chocolate, spice, and body.

Ground Coffee
Preparation Extraction

From Bean to Cup

Ethiopian coffee shines through various brewing methods. Traditional ceremonies use a clay pot called a jebena, while modern methods like pour-over and espresso reveal different aspects of Ethiopia's complex profiles.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

As the birthplace of Arabica coffee, Ethiopia offers unmatched genetic diversity. Our Grade 1 beans from Nensebo, Sidama, and Yirgacheffe showcase flavor complexity — from floral and citrus to berry and wine-like notes — that you simply cannot find from any other origin.

Grade 1 is the highest quality classification for Ethiopian coffee. It means fewer than 3 defects per 300g sample, with exceptional cup quality scoring 85+ on the SCA scale. All three of our offerings meet this standard.

For export orders, our standard minimum is one container (approximately 19.2 metric tons / 320 bags of 60kg). For smaller specialty orders and new partnerships, we offer flexible quantities — contact us to discuss your needs.

We offer both washed (wet-processed) and natural (dry-processed) methods for all three origins. Washed coffees tend toward clean, bright, and citric profiles while naturals lean fruity, full-bodied, and wine-like.

We hold Organic, Fair Trade, Rainforest Alliance, UTZ, ISO quality management, Ethiopian Commodity Exchange (ECX) export license, International Coffee Organization (ICO) membership, and FDA registration for the US market.

Typically 4–6 weeks from order confirmation to delivery at your port. We handle all export documentation and work with established logistics partners to ensure timely, secure delivery to any global destination.
